Q:
What is Therapeutic Thai Yoga massage?
A: Traditional Thai Yoga massage dates back to about
2,500 B.C., developed to address human illness & disease. It therapeutically works on the body’s energy lines. These energy lines,
if blocked, cause discomfort and disease. A skilled
practitioner uses hands, feet and elbows to focus on pressure
points along the body’s energy lines, freeing up blockages
and calming the mind – working from the soles of the feet,
all the way up to the top of the head.
Q: What do I wear?
A: Plan on dressing in loose, comfortable clothing. You will be lying
on a comfortable futon mat for your treatment. No messy oils are used.
Q: I’m in pain, how can Thai
Yoga massage help?
A: Therapeutic Thai yoga bodywork is practiced specifically
to treat certain diseases – please see the Benefits
page for our specialities. Our Therapeutic Thai Yoga massage programs address the client with precision and holistic intention.

Q: Does Thai Yoga massage hurts?
A: Therapeutic Thai Yoga massage doesn’t hurt, if administered correctly. An
intuitive, experienced practitioner will read your body
and be able to bring you to the edge of “good pain” – it
is at this threshold that the greatest release happens,
while not traumatizing your body more.
Q: But what about “no pain,
no gain”?
A: We don’t subscribe to that concept. If your body’s
already out of whack, why would you want someone
hurt it more? The human body contracts if threatened
with pain, so that defeats the purpose of relaxing in order
to receive the best therapeutic work.
Q: What if I’ve never taken
a yoga class?
A: By all means, yes! The nickname for Thai Yoga massage is “Lazyman’s
Yoga” -- you get all the benefits of having gone
to a yoga class, but you don’t need to do any of the actual
work, because we do it for you! You achieve
the stretches and calmness of mind, and walk away feeling
superbly limber and grounded.

Q: How will Thai Yoga massage
help me with my pregnancy?
A: For more information, read about the benefits of Thai Yoga Pregnancy bodywork.
Q:
I’m not bendy. Is
Thai Yoga massage for me?
A: Absolutely! If anything, you’re a prime candidate,
because all that gentle stretching will help your body
feel great – and, over time, you’re body will regain suppleness, strength, and a body-wide range of movement.
Q: What’s the difference between
Thai Yoga massage and Swedish massage?
A: Swedish massage sedates muscles and soft tissue. Thai Yoga massage activates your entire body: it works the energy points along and guides you into corrective, dynamic stretches. This combination creates a unique form of bodywork designed for precision work, postural re-alignment, and pain relief.

Q:
Can massage help in weight loss?
A: Our programs can help
you prepare your body for workouts, whether or not you’re just getting back into an exercise routine or a life-long athlete. Thai Yoga massage
helps lengthen and warm-up your muscles so you get a deeper workout and prevent injury. Post-exercise, Thai Yoga
massage pushes out all the
pain-causing lactic acid building up in your muscles, thus preparing
you for your next workout. It also helps restore your complete range of movement, so your muscles don't shorten and grow weak from tightness.
Q: Can Thai Yoga Massage help in post-natal recovery?
A: Definitely. We endeavor to help you recover from pregnancy and labor as quickly as possible so you can get to loving your newborn unencumbered! Initially, we help the stretched abdominal skin regain elasticity, stimulate organ function to help circulation of nutrients, and re-orient you back into your body. We address other post-partum issues by re-aligning your posture to pre-pregnancy state. This eases pain in the neck, shoulders, and back (i.e., from nursing), boosts energy levels (to counter sleeplessness), and restores your pelvic position (in case there's plans for more!).
Q: When is it safe for me to enjoy a post-natal treatment?
A: Postpartum massage is usually safe immediately to 24-hours after you’ve given birth. If your delivery had complications or involved surgery (C-section delivery), we will discuss modifying your treatment to ensure your comfort and safety. Most women will need to wait three weeks post surgery.

Q:
Why is there a 4 month minimum time period for your programs?
A: Our programs are specialized to address postural re-alignment, and results come from consistent application and momentum, which is why we ask for a 4 month minimum. Change will occur due to attention brought to you in an area that was previously neglected, however, depending on your physical condition, please be realistic about your expectations of us and of yourself. Melt Therapy is not responsible for external stressors affecting client’s physical, psychological, or emotional state.
